ELD Mandate (Electronic Logging Rule) Notification – Update

December 2017

Update December 28, 2017: Further to the below notice, after meeting with many truckers please be advised that most
truckers will be reducing their free time allowance to one hour effective January 1st as a result of the new regulation.
The ELD Mandate will have an effect on rates in most markets but we are working diligently to mitigate any increase to
our customers.

Dear Valued Customer,

Please be advised of the following information in regards to the ELD Mandate (Electronic Logging Rule)
implemented by the Federal Motor Carrier Safety Administration, effective December 18, 2017.

An electronic logging device (ELD) is used to electronically record a driver’s Record of Duty Status (RODS), which replaces
the paper logbook some drivers currently use to record their compliance with Hours of Service (HOS) requirements. ELD
is intended to help create a safer work environment for drivers, and make it easier and faster to accurately track,
manage, and share records of duty status.

The impact of this mandate may lead to reduced truck capacity and reduced waiting time allowance, which may in turn
have an effect on trucking rates beginning in January, 2018. For additional details please see the attached ELD
Infographic provided by Journal of Commerce, and feel free to contact your account representative if there are any
questions.
