US Customs Issuance of Wood Packaging Material Penalty

Dear Valued Customer,

As you are aware, all wood packaging used to ship products internationally are subject to ISPM 15 regulations which
were developed to prevent the transportation and spread of disease and insects into new ecosystems. All wood
packaging must be stamped or branded with the IPPC mark of compliance. Penalties for failure to comply with this
regulation include but are not limited to Examination costs, return of goods to Country of Origin at Shipper’s expense,
fumigation costs, and/or costs for destruction of improper wood packaging.

US Customs has now informed the industry that effective November 1, 2017, they are taking an additional step to
ensure compliance and Importers may be assessed liquidated damages for failure to comply. The official memo is
below. We urge you to educate your suppliers and ensure compliance with this regulation as US Customs will hold you,
the Importer of Record, responsible for any violations.
